A pear-cut zircon at 5.56 carats from Mozambique, in a deep pomegranate red that is rare in zircon and almost entirely associated with this deposit. Unheated, which is unusual for red zircon — most material is thermally treated to reach or stabilize color. The pear form at this weight carries serious physical authority. Zircon's exceptional dispersion and birefringence give it an optical complexity that distinguishes it from every other red gemstone species.
