THE HOUSE OF DANTE BIANCO
FRAGMENT 001
The Stone
A study in material, origin, and transformation.
BEFORE THE OBJECT, THERE IS THE STONE.
Every work begins with a material that existed before the hand encountered it.
Its color, internal structure, origin, and imperfections establish the possibilities of everything that follows.
The task is not simply to adorn it.
The task is to understand it.

THE SPECIMEN
Umbalite Garnet - Umba River, Tanzania
A cushion-cut garnet weighing 2.51 carats, distinguished by a vivid crimson-raspberry hue and exceptional clarity.
Unheated and untreated, the stone retains its natural character. Its color is not an embellishment applied to the material, but an intrinsic quality revealed through the cut.
Before a setting is conceived, the stone already possesses its own structure, proportion, and presence.
It is the first condition of the object.

A PRINCIPLE OF THE HOUSE
The stone is not an ornament to be added to a design.
It is a volume around which the design must be conceived.
Metal establishes the frame. Structure determines the relationship. Void gives the object room to exist.
The material is encountered first. The form follows.
You are reading this because you possess the rare habit of looking closely at the world around you.
You noticed the dark steel resting against the stone and iron infrastructure of the city, where thousands of others walked past.
Your attention has been recorded.
