THE HOUSE OF DANTE BIANCO
FRAGMENT 002
The Cut
A study in transformation.
A STONE DOES NOT REVEAL ITSELF ALL AT ONCE
A rough material contains possibilities that cannot be seen from its surface.
The cut is the first deliberate act of transformation.
It removes what does not belong.
It establishes proportion.
It creates planes where there were none.
It determines how light will enter, travel, and return.
The cutter does not create the material's character.
The cutter reveals it.

THE ACT OF CUTTING
Cutting is not decoration.
It is subtraction governed by intention.
Every plane establishes a relationship with another plane. Every angle determines how light behaves. Every proportion changes the character of the whole.
A cut is therefore both an absence and an addition.
Material is removed.
Possibility is revealed.
THE WORK BEGINS WITH WHAT IS ALREADY THERE.
The House does not impose form upon material without first understanding it.
The stone establishes the conditions.
The cut establishes the direction.
The object emerges through a sequence of decisions.
A PRINCIPLE OF THE HOUSE
The cut must serve the material before it serves convention.
A gemstone does not exist to receive a predetermined shape.
Its structure, color, inclusions, proportions, and response to light establish the conditions of the cut.
The cutter listens before cutting.

THE HOUSE IS NOT FOUND ALL AT ONCE.
You have encountered one fragment.
Dante Bianco is a house of jewelry, exceptional stones, and objects conceived through material, structure, and proportion.
