Pink-Purple Sapphire - Madagascar - 3.20ct

A 3.20-carat natural sapphire originating from Madagascar distinguished by a restrained, atmospheric palette of muted pink-purple, steely violet, and sage-gray green. Rather than presenting as a conventional vivid pink or purple sapphire, this stone possesses a cool metallic character in which color, zoning, and pleochroism become its defining features.

The sapphire's official GIA color designation is Pink-Purple, while high-resolution examination reveals a distinct steely gray-green zone concentrated along one side of the stone. As the sapphire rotates, this zone shifts against the muted pink-purple body, producing a subtle bi-color effect and revealing pronounced pleochroism.

Its relatively low saturation gives the stone a sophisticated, desaturated appearance. The cool pink-purple body is softened by gray and green modifiers, creating an almost mineral-metallic visual character rather than the brilliant chromatic intensity associated with finer saturated sapphire.

The 9.95 × 8.04 mm oval is fashioned with a brilliant crown and modified step-cut pavilion. At approximately 50% depth, the stone maintains a broad face-up presence while allowing its internal color zoning and pleochroic behavior to remain visible.

Natural rutile silk, fine inclusions, and minor internal feathers are visible under magnification, giving the stone an unmistakably natural internal character. These features place the sapphire within the SI1–SI2 clarity range and contribute to its more geological, textural appearance.

Accompanied by GIA Sapphire Report No. 2235100233, dated October 31, 2023, this sapphire offers something less conventional than straightforward color rarity: a documented natural sapphire whose subdued palette and internal color architecture create a distinctly atmospheric object.
