Natural 5.56 ct Mozambique zircon in a pear cut with saturated pomegranate-red color.

Deep Pomegranate Red Zircon - Mozambique - 5.56ct

A substantial natural zircon from Mozambique distinguished by a rich, saturated pomegranate-red body color and an unusually lively optical character.

At 5.56 carats and 12.33 × 8.21 mm, the stone possesses considerable face-up presence. Its pear-shaped profile gives the gem a defined directional character, with a pronounced point flowing into a broad, rounded base. The silhouette is particularly effective in allowing the deep red body color to remain visually concentrated while the brilliant faceting produces flashes of warmer ember-orange and burgundy.

Under rotation, the stone reveals the characteristic optical complexity of zircon. Its high refractive index and strong birefringence create pronounced facet doubling and dynamic internal reflections, while its dispersion contributes flashes of fire that become especially apparent along the crown and facet junctions.

The color is best described as deep pomegranate red: a saturated crimson body with darker burgundy depth and intermittent warm ember-orange reflections. Despite its substantial tone, the stone maintains strong internal light return, preventing the body from becoming visually inert.

Macro examination indicates an exceptionally clean crystal. No eye-visible inclusions, significant clouding, or surface-reaching fissures are apparent in the supplied rotational and high-resolution imagery. For inventory purposes, the stone is therefore assessed at approximately VVS1 clarity.

Represented as completely natural and unheated, this zircon combines size, saturated color, transparency, and optical character in a manner uncommon among ordinary commercial zircon. Its pear profile also gives it particular potential as a focal gemstone in a pendant, ring, or architectural setting where its directional silhouette can become part of the design itself.
